Police officers are required to undertake a minimum of 2 to 4 years of general duties policing, working at police stations. This is where you’ll learn the foundation skills for a career in policing. General duties shifts are 8 hours in length and can be day, afternoon or night shifts. Shift work can have many benefits that office
hours don’t – such as being able to drop the kids at school, pursue a hobby or undertake part-time studies.
From there, the options are as diverse as you are. You can manage teams, rise up the ranks, mentor others and learn specialist skills as part of areas like the Critical Incident Response Team, Criminal Investigation Units, Family Violence Support and Search and Rescue.
