Growth Strategist

Apostrophe Copywriters is on the hunt for a Growth Strategist. You’re curious, confident and you know a bunch about emerging markets and brands. You know how to spot a solid opportunity, as much as you know how to close a deal. In saying that, no one would ever call you a salesperson. You’re far too likeable for that.

As one of our growth strategists, you’ll be in charge of, well, growth. It’s a mandatory that you get a kick out of coin-related KPIs. You’ll think creatively about how we acquire the right customers, the right way. You’ll pinpoint exactly what a client wants and what they mightn’t realise they need. You know that a good strategist is a bit like a therapist, only without the leopard-print chair – you know how to listen, ask the right questions, mirror and find the real reason a client has come to us in the first place. Good figures are simply proof that you know how to articulate a client’s problem in a digestible way.

Speaking of… you’ll write briefs and work alongside our editors, head strategist, creative director and award-winning copywriters to see the job released into the wild (as support, not the lead). We firmly believe that if you don’t prioritise your (working) life, someone else will. That’s why we put our energy into clients who work within the areas of sustainability, health, architecture, design, education, food and tech (more on current clients below). Seduced? Great. Day-to-day you will:

  • Research emerging markets and find a way to talk to brands within them
  • Put together quotes using our intuitive system
  • Work out efficiencies and profit margins
  • Identify opportunities with existing clients
  • Focus on coin-related KPIs and reporting
  • Set up the beginning of every job you win, run workshops, write insightful briefs and keep the momentum going.

 You’ll need to have:

  • A minimum of two years in a strategic/business/accounts role
  • Proven growth experience (ability to take a brand from A to B)
  • Experience writing briefs
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A love of the written word
  • A strong understanding of business development
  • Exposure to copywriting – whether that be in agencies (design, digital, branding, advertising or similar) or in the marketing or commercial departments of a creative or publishing business
  • A competitive spirit, a good dose of empathy and a positive attitude.

 Bonus points for:

  • A little black book full of contacts, connections, and anecdotes (including the time you shared some tequila with that designer in Texas) within the creative industries
  • An eye for design and the ability to put a presentation together in InDesign.


So, who are we?
Apostrophe is a copywriting collective made up of award-winning strategists, editors and copywriters. We have a small core team (based in both Melbourne and Amsterdam) and a wider team (spread around the globe). Two-thirds of us have worked in the world’s top advertising agencies, and the rest have made their mark (and continue to do so) by drawing inspiration from previous chapters of their lives.

If you’d been in this role for the last six months, you may have been involved in the following projects: 
1/ Butch – an underwear brand aimed at the Bear community (AUS)
2/ NDA – a bunch of clients who are working within the cannabis industry (LA) 
3/ Dims. – an ambitious furniture brand democratis(z)ing good design (LA)
4/ University of Technology, Sydney – developing and implementing a unique tone of voice to attract international students (AUS) 
5/ NDA – a beauty brand, backed by science from NASA and the World Health Organisation (NZ) 
6/ Rural Financial Counselling Services – a not-for-profit organisation built to help farmers get back on their feet (AUS) 
7/ Bonsoy – Australia’s favourite soy milk 
8/ Los Angeles Philharmonic – Hollywood Bowl and Walt Disney Concert Hall (LA)

The nitty-gritty:

This is a full-time role on a three-month contract to start. Salary will be considered alongside the prowess you bring ($50K-$135K profit-share model).
