We are looking for a Sous Chef who will support the Head Chef in a full-time position.
Part-time position is also available for a Chef or Cook.
We are currently looking for an experienced and passionate Sous Chef who will support the Head Chef and kitchen in a full-time position.
We also have a part-time position available for a Chef or Cook on award wages.
Located in the backstreets of Prahran, The Flying Duck Hotel has been around for over 100 years. In its current format "The Duck" boasts one of Melbourne's best beer gardens, along with 2 lovely dining spaces and front bar. Successful candidates will have a strong work ethic and the ability to perform in a fast-paced kitchen.
Sous Chef - Duties and Responsibilities:
- Planning and organising the preparation and cooking of food
- Act in charge in the absence of the Head Chef
- Planning menus, estimating food and labour costs, and ordering food supplies
- Monitoring quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation
- Discussing food preparation issues with Head Chef
- Explaining and enforcing hygiene regulations
- Freezing and preserving foods
The successful Sous Chef candidate will:
- possess trade qualifications in cookery – minimum Certificate IV
- have a minimum of 3 years experience in hospitality
- show sound cookery techniques and the ability to learn new ones
- have strong communication skills
- organised and work well under pressure
- be team oriented
- have a positive, punctual and professional approach
- be familiar with food safety and OHS guidelines
- skilled in stock, ordering and labour control
- show excellent attention to detail
- have a positive attitude with an enthusiastic personality and a passion for cooking
