The Farm Cafe is looking for experienced Supervisors and dedicated FOH Staff for our busy 2021-2022 Wedding and Events seasons. Located just 4kms from Melbourne CBD, The Farm Cafe is a gorgeous country landscape tucked away by the Yarra River in Abbotsford. Weekend availability is paramount for both roles.

Seasonal Catering FOH Supervisor

Objective of the role

Lead and supervise the Front of House team on shift to deliver exceptional weddings and hospitality. 

Main duties and responsibilities:

Weddings and Events

  • Direct staff to set up for events according to the job run sheets and ensuring a high standard of presentation.
  • Supervise event staff to deliver food and beverage service at events
  • Monitor the quality of food and beverage being delivered to ensure standards are met.
  • Engage in client and vendor contact, introducing yourself as the Supervisor and responding to requests during an event
  • Liaise with kitchen team to coordinate food and beverage service for events including dietary requirements
  • Liaise with the Event Planner to understand the client’s requirements and the plan (run sheet) to be followed for the event.
  • Ensuring the professional handling of customer feedback and complaints.
  • Offer input to run sheets and the logistics and planning of operations
  • Ensuring safe OH&S practices are followed by all staff
  • Pack down of events to the standards set by the farm and The Farm Cafe
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of events production, logistics and operations
  • Write a shift report on Podio following an event and alert the Events Manager to any matters that need to be actioned.

Staff Supervision

  • Direct staff on shift ensuring all roles are filled, tasks completed and performed to required standards
  • Conduct performance appraisals for FOH staff.
  • Counsel and manage performance of staff
  • Assist in the delivery of Food and beverage training for FOH staff
  • Maintain the company’s appearance, communication and behaviour standards

Other duties as may be directed from time to time

Key selection criteria

  • Can effectively supervise and give direction to a team of staff in food and beverage service.

  • Understanding of the farm cafe aesthetics and approach to genuine and authentic hospitality and customer service
  • Willingness to commit to the rigours and physical demands of providing great events and hospitality on a farm and in sometimes difficult weather conditions.
  • Good at solving logistical and other problems and resolving conflict whilst maintaining a calm and confident manner
  • Able to think and act quickly and flexibly, prioritising multiple competing tasks to get the job done.
  • Great team player who enjoys working with others to achieve results
  • Willing to work weekends and delay holidays until the off-season

Qualifications

  • RSA certification
  • Valid Victorian drivers license
  • Hospitality or event qualifications will be highly regarded

Experience

At least 3 years experience working as a hospitality supervisor

Other Skills and Requirements

  • Sound written skills
  • Able to perform physical tasks, such as lifting, carrying
  • Must have a mobile phone and access to a computer

Seasonal Catering Front Of House Team Member 

Objectives of the role

Assist in the setting up and packing down of events. Provide excellent food and beverage service to guests. 

Main duties and responsibilities:

Guest Service

A team member will be responsible for ensuring:

  • Guests are greeted and served in a friendly and professional manner
  • Food and beverages are served to, and cleared from guests quickly, calmly and efficiently demonstrating an appropriate level of hospitality skill, adhering to Farm Cafe systems and standards as instructed and trained by supervisors.
  • Guest questions about food and beverages are answered accurately and knowledgeably with due care taken in responding to special dietary questions.
  • Any guest complaint or concern is dealt with promptly and politely escalating the matter to a supervisor where it is unable to be easily resolved.
  • Exercising responsible service of alcohol in line with training when serving on the bar.
  • Minimising wastage of food and beverage through careful food handling.

Venue Set Up, Presentation and Pack Down

A team member is responsible for:

  • Setting up furniture, decorations and equipment and setting tables in accordance with the run sheet and instructions from the Event Planner and Supervisor.
  • Cleaning of areas to be used for events including sweeping, picking up rubbish and cleaning bathrooms.
  • Cleaning and packing away equipment once it is finished with to ensure a quick and efficient pack down at the conclusion of the event.
  • Cleaning, packing and returning items to storage containers and storage rooms ensuring they are left in a tidy and orderly state.
  • Maintaining clean and tidy back of house areas including sorting rubbish from compost, broken glass and recycling and ensuring disposal in the correct bins.
  • Washing and polishing glasses and cutlery.
  • Reporting any repairs, maintenance or low stock levels to the supervisor for attention
  • Following the farm or venue’s rules and regulations.
  • Following correct OHS practices as trained in induction eg: using ladders, manual handling, electrical safety etc.

Communication and personal presentation

A team member is responsible for:

  • Maintaining personal presentation to the standard indicated by the supervisor including clean, ironed uniform, clean tied back hair, clean fingernails, enclosed footwear, minimal jewelry and a clean apron.
  • Confirming and accepting rostered shifts with the Events Manager asap
  • Communicating any roster requests via the Deputy app to the Events Manager giving reasonable notice.
  • Arriving punctually to work having pre-read the event run sheet
  • Handling any client property, Farm Cafe equipment and vehicles with care and respect.
  • Polite, respectful and helpful communication to clients, venue staff and third party suppliers
  • Monitoring notifications from the Deputy rostering app as well as email to be aware of changes to shifts and to receive event run sheets in advance.
  • Use Deputy or email to alert the Events Manager of any feedback from events or to report damage or incidents. Damage or incidents should also be reported asap on shift to the supervisor.
  • Participate in two way performance appraisals with Event Supervisors

Key selection criteria

  • Event or hospitality experience
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate is a requirement
  • A warm, helpful, enthusiastic and professional manner
  • Commitment and enthusiasm for excellent customer service to deliver an event that delights guests and clients
  • Willingness to commit to the rigors and physical demands of providing great events and hospitality in an outdoor venue in varying and sometimes uncomfortable weather conditions.
  • Can effectively and efficiently work to deadlines
  • Good at solving logistical and other problems and resolving conflict whilst maintaining a calm and confident manner
  • Great team player who enjoys working with others to achieve results
  • Willing to work weekends and is available throughout the wedding season (Nov – March)
  • Always works safely and acts to ensure the safety of guests and co-workers
  • Current Victorian Driver’s license and experience driving vans will be highly regarded.
