The Role

 

Broadsheet Media is looking for an app editor to join our national editorial team. The role can be either Melbourne or Sydney based.

This is an editorial role. The app editor is responsible for: creating a highly engaging experience for app users that feels curated and personalised through timely delivery of relevant and captivating content; growing Broadsheet’s directory audience and making Broadsheet the country’s most credible and popular platform for browsing, discovering and booking restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and hotels.  

You will report to Broadsheet’s publications director and work closely with the directory editor to ensure Broadsheet delivers on its promise to be the best resource on city culture in Australia. 

 

This is a hands-on production role, involving the ideation, planning, commissioning, editing, writing and publication of content and copy. The app editor ensures smooth day-to-day running of editorial on the app, and that the Broadsheet directory is evolving with the app in mind.

 

You will use audience data and insights to inform broader editorial commissioning and planning, and you will manage contributors – both writers and photographers – as well as interns.

 

We are looking for someone with experience in similar editing roles, ideally working in a fast-paced, high-output digital newsroom environment. The role requires someone with an organised mind who enjoys sorting and categorising information. The successful candidate will be an excellent writer with a strong grasp of grammar and editorial conventions, who can ensure our copy is insightful, sharp, entertaining and accurate.

 

We are looking for someone with a passion for, and nuanced understanding of, the cultural scene – especially food and drink – in their home city and Australia in general. Knowledge of Broadsheet and the culture and cities it covers will be an advantage, as will a familiarity with the ways in which a publication can be repackaged socially with speed, clarity, and wit. We are looking for someone who is agile, efficient and has a “yes” mentality.

 

Broadsheet editorial is a fast-paced, constantly changing news environment – the app editor must be a highly organised, flexible and reliable individual who is self-motivated, consistently meets tight deadlines and can manage high-pressure situations in a calm and professional manner. The editor knows how to connect with audiences online, what makes successful and credible digital editorial, and has an endless curiosity about life and culture in Australia.
