Executive Director

Current: Marketing Coordinator, Ticketing Coordinator, Contractors (eg. Graphic Designers).
Future: Digital Content Producer.

Program Director, Venue Manager

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position based at Comedy Republic, Lvl 2, 231 Bourke St, Melbourne.

Comedy Republic is an independent arts institution dedicated to new Australian comedy, and owns Melbourne’s only theatre purpose-built for daily live comedy, producing and hosting shows live and online 12 months of the year. What’s the role:

The Marketing and Communications Manager will be responsible for Comedy Republic’s public face, overseeing the development, management and operation of innovative marketing and communications strategies to best achieve Comedy Republic’s artistic and financial goals. 

You will commission designs and creative content to promote the theatre and its various shows, festivals and brands, to better target new and existing audience segments with a focus on increased sales.

You will work closely with the Program Manager and report to the Executive Director while leading a small and passionate team of collaborative lovers of the comedy arts, working hard to establish this new institution in the local and national market.


What you'll do:

  • Develop cutting edge and audience centric marketing strategies, and implement campaigns for the theatre and its stable of shows and festivals to grow ticket sales and audience base.
  • Create and build iconic theatrical brands, including press images, show artwork, advertising assets and videos, and increase public awareness with clear and consistent messaging across all communication platforms.
  • Reinvigorate and grow the membership base of the theatre to drive the highest levels of engagement from our patrons.
  • Manage the ticketing experience to ensure marketing strategies turn into  sales.
  • Forecast project-based marketing and sales budgets, approved by Executive Director, and deliver campaigns within allocated resources.
  • Foster new and existing partnerships within and outside the comedy industry.
  • Lead or contribute significantly to ad hoc marketing and projects as required.
  • Display effective team management, ensuring staff have the knowledge, skills and resources to achieve departmental goals.
  • Use Audience Insights and data analytics tools to identify opportunities for digital growth and provide strategic advice and regular feedback to Executive Director.

Who you are:

  • Strong understanding of digital marketing and social media, particularly for cheeky brands
  • Knowledge of online video content and podcasting.
  • Creative thinker, confident and proactive in your approach, able to work autonomously and be a team player, while displaying great communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Strong experience in planning and implementing effective marketing and community engagement plans
  • Effective leadership skills, with the ability to lead, mentor and develop employees
  • Highly advanced project management skills
  • Be a relationship driven person.
  • Love and passion for comedy, gigs and festivals
