We’re on the hunt for a Junior Sous Chef to join the Garden State Hotel family!

Positioned in the cosmopolitan heart of Flinders Lane, amongst some of the most infamous laneways and innovative restaurants in the country, Garden State Hotel is a thriving, multi-faceted, high-pressure environment. Boasting four levels of dining and drinking offerings wrapped around a botanical beer garden, it’s no wonder Garden State Hotel has quickly solidified itself as an iconic CBD destination. 

Within this botanical oasis shines a yellow framed doorway to an Italian playground. With a fusion of bold and bright colours, walls lined with over 3000 vintage glass bottles, negroni fountains, mismatched plates and not a white tablecloth in sight, Tippy-Tay is bringing European summer to the heart of our city. With seasonal menus showcasing incredible local produce, this is an epic opportunity to work in a fun environment with a highly skilled, tight-knit team creating delicious food for both our pub and Tippy-Tay restaurant.

Someone who shares our values, who brings passion and positivity, who drives their own growth and the growth of their team and isn’t afraid to challenge us and the way things have 'always been done' in order to find the best solutions. You will be responsible for supporting and assisting the Head Chef in planning, preparation, and production of all food products at the venue. 

This position would suit a sous chef looking to expand their skills with an extremely busy venue and large brigade.

Key responsibilities include:

  • A strong focus on customer satisfaction and attention to detail
  • Managing the kitchen team during services and running a section
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Assist the kitchen management team in maximising profitable food sales 
  • Producing and maintaining superior standards of food with a focus on customer parameters
  • Developing and training team members both FOH + BOH
