Wide Open Road Cafe is one of the leading breakfast & brunch cafes in Melbourne and as Head Chef you have an exciting opportunity to lead a dynamic team to provide honest, seasonal and delicious food to locals, weekend brunch goers and tourists alike.

This exciting daytime leadership opportunity is a full-time position and you will oversee the operations of the kitchen. You will be responsible for all aspects of running the kitchen including developing our seasonal menu, forecasting supply needs and determining costs. You will be in charge of staffing the kitchen including rostering, hiring and training. 

 

You will have a strong focus on the success of the business while also being an integral part in the continuing development of the positive culture of Wide Open Road. 

 

Key Responsibilities will include:

 

-Leading the kitchen operations

-Working closely with our key leadership team to grow operations.

-Forecasting, planning and executing seasonal menu updates.

-Ensure all menu items are correctly calculated to achieve target cost of goods and all records are accurate and documented.

-Manage day-to-day operation of the kitchen, coordinate food production schedules and ensure the highest level of food quality, taste and presentation is adhered to at all times.

-Control food costs to minimise wastage by training kitchen staff on the proper methods of food preparation and handling.

-Control stock to minimise wastage while ensuring its quality and freshness.

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Minimum 6 years experience working in Restaurants and cafe kitchens.
  • 2+ years in the role of Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef in busy daytime venues.  
  • 2+ years developing menus and costing menus
  • Relevant qualifications.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to quickly delegate job tasks to your staff.
  • Problem solving abilities, be self motivated and organised.
  • Aspirational approach to your career
  • A passion for food and a commitment to quality
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and taking instructions in the English language.
  • A good command of computer skills. 
  • Competent in basic mathematics.
