The Opportunity 

The Starward Distillery & Bar Chef will be responsible for the operations and delivery of food menu, ensuring all food is prepared to the highest standards and in accordance with health and safety regulations. The successful candidate will utilise their knowledge of local ingredients and passion for whisky to delivery high quality dishes that champion Starward’s products. 

This is a full-time position working across 4 days most weeks. You will be required to have flexibility with the roster for functions and events. 

Working within the Brand Home team as well as the broader business key responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to the preparation of seasonal menus, function menus and ensure quality control and service standards are maintained, including:
  • Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality and presentation standards.
  • Manage stock ordering and rotation, monitoring product freshness. Keep detailed records to minimise waste.
  • Ensure food purchasing, preparation and cooking is completed daily and in line with the quality standards.
  • Manage dietary requirements and adapt menus to suit those requirements.
  • Monitor food costs and portion control to ensure profitability.
  • Always ensure food safety compliance. 
  • Monitor for correct product storage and temperature and take prompt action to redress quality issues. 
  • Ensure that all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and in good working order.
  • Delegating and managing Kitchen Porter’s duties.

The successful candidate will have a certificate 3 or 4 in commercial cookery and minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role. They will have demonstrated knowledge and ability (or willingness to learn) to pair cocktails, wine, and whisky with food. 

Experience working in high end bars and/or distilleries/breweries will be highly favourable for this role.
