Innocent Bystander was born of the Yarra Valley, where wine is our heart and soul (and coffee and beer come a close joint second).
A certain attitude comes with the territory out here. While we are serious about winemaking, we don’t bang on about it or get tied up in industry trends and prestige.
Our wines are delicious and approachable expressions of what we do so well in the valley (you might call them the usual suspects).
Our place isn’t your sniff-and-spit cellar door either. At IB HQ we want to deliver great wine (and sometimes un-wine) experiences that anyone can enjoy, without having to buy into all the stuffiness that so overcomplicates and overthinks wine in Australia.

Innocent Bystander has recently joined a bigger family of wine brands, and this is a truly unique opportunity to lead, develop and motivate what will be a new team of culinary professionals, as we open our new home in Healesville.
As Head Chef for one of the most exciting wine brands in the country, we want this role to help make Innocent Bystander the go-to place for food ! We’ll be serving up great pizza simply served accompanied by Paella, Charcuterie and other Southern European foods. Your major responsibilities will be to manage all aspects of the new kitchen environment including staff supervision, menu production, ingredient provisions and budget, purchasing and stock control.
We are seeking a candidate in the market who understands the importance of building and inspiring a great kitchen team, is a great chef and culinary lead and who simultaneously manage the operational challenges of running a busy seven day a week restaurant.
You chose to do what you do because you love food (and probably wine too) and you love providing an amazing dining experience for your customers. You’ve probably cut your teeth in a larger hospitality venue but are keen to work for a brand and company that’s more ‘you’. You’re probably less about the white tablecloths and ‘which fork to use’ experience and more about creating a super delicious, relaxed and memorable drop-in place for friends and family – and you want them to come back again and again. You’re familiar with working in a regional area and understand the importance of catering to locals and visitors alike - and you’ve got enough experience to know what works and what doesn’t for this type of offering. You’re at the stage of your Chef career where you’re ready and excited to take up a challenge, build something from the ground up and share your knowledge – success is your driver and you want to take others on the journey with you. You also have a great reputation as a Chef and Manager. People not only admire what you do technically, but the style in which you go about it - and you’re a collaborative person by nature. It’s likely that you already know and love the Innocent Bystander brand and have existing knowledge of the Yarra Valley.
