The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is seeking an Exhibition Designer to support the Manager, Exhibition Design and Exhibition Design team with key exhibition and infrastructure projects and exhibition graphics.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
Under guidance you will undertake exhibition design and planning for temporary exhibitions, collection displays and commercial projects including; the preparation of concepts, design development, specifications and documentation drawings for build and tendering purposes, arranging quotes, procurement of approved services and project administration. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Developing, conceptualising and executing environmental graphic design for permanent and temporary exhibitions, programs, events & commercial projects including retail.
  • Undertaking and supporting the Exhibition Design team in CAD documentation for exhibitions and displays for construction purposes including design and production of environmental graphics.
  • Preparing schedules and cost estimates to inform planning and budgeting for the exhibition design resources.

To be successful you will have a degree in Interior Design, Architecture or allied field, coupled with proven experience in a design environment, preferably controlling design projects.  You will also be able to execute the design process of a project, from conceptual visualisation through to final CAD documentation drawings and specifications for build and quotation purposes, production of documents for graphics and project administration.

You can produce project plans where objectives are clearly defined and action steps for achieving them are clearly specified, ensuring project objectives are met by anticipating and managing potential and emerging issues.  You actively seek all relevant information for problem-solving, analysing issues from different perspectives, drawing from the information available and identifying and proposing workable solutions to problems. You can confidently convey ideas and information in a clear and interesting way, seeing things from others’ points of view, while expressing your own views in a constructive and diplomatic way.  You can also adapt presentations to suit the audience and ensure that written communications contain the necessary information to achieve its purposes.
