Later this month, the Emerging Writers’ Festival returns to Melbourne with a number of fantastic industry events for writers and publishers. Here are our not-to-be-missed selections.
Industry Insiders: Digital Self-Promotion
Learn how to effectively use social media to promote your work and expand your readership. In a two-hour panel, Sydney writer Patrick Lenton will take you through the benefits of the internet age for writing; how the relationship between the reader and writer has changed, and – most importantly – will give practical advice on how you can use social media to your advantage.
Tuesday June 20 at The Wheeler Centre, 176 Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne. 6pm–8pm.
What does it take to be the person behind the scenes at arts and cultural events? Whether it’s your own artistic project or a whole program of events, this industry panel and conference will look at how to plan and manage your dream into a cohesive whole. The panellists are five active Australian writers who’ll offer helpful advice for your project including grant writing, budgeting and volunteer or staff management.
Sunday June 18 at the State Library of Victoria Conference Centre, Melbourne. 12pm–1pm.
Industry Insiders: Emerging Editors
It’s easy enough to start writing, but what about editing? This panel will help you understand the basics of the editing world, with tips on how to strike up positive relationships with writers and details of some of the obstacles that face emerging editors. Presented by four working editors, you’ll get to hear how they began, how they’re finding it, and how you too could be doing what they’re doing.
Monday June 19 at The Wheeler Centre, 176 Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne. 6pm–7pm.
This event will be focused on insider info and advice from editors, publishers and literary agents about the many facets of the publishing industry. Before the event, panellists will be taking submissions from participants for the burning questions you have about the industry so you can be directly involved in the conversation. This is a perfect opportunity to get to the bottom of the Australian writing scene with knowledge from three of its prominent figures.
Thursday June 22 at The Wheeler Centre, 176 Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne. 6pm–7pm.
