Victorian State Government Announces $491 Million in Tax Relief for Businesses

Businesses are eligible if they are participating in the Jobkeeper program

The Victorian Government announced this week that it will deliver $491 million in tax relief for businesses signed up to the Jobkeeper program.

Businesses will be exempt from paying payroll tax and the Workcover levy on Jobkeeper payments to employees who aren’t working. Anyone who has entitlement to Workcover protection will still be covered.

Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas said in a press conference that there are more than 80,000 Victorian businesses currently enrolled in the Jobkeeper program. The cost to the state is around $225 million in payroll tax relief and $200 million in Workcover relief.

The remaining $66 million will come in the form of freezing (not waiving) a host of fees and fines for businesses and households, including things such as drivers license and vehicle registration fees. These will be announced in more detail at a later date.
