We are looking for an experienced and dedicated person to become our Kitchen Manager and Head of Pastry or Bread. We see this as a dynamic role filled with creativity, ownership and mentorship.

As our bakery hits close to the two year mark, this is a rare opportunity for the right person to steer Iris to that next level we are striving for.
You will be working amongst a lovely team of people of varied experience and background, and being ready to mentor and encourage their growth will be an important part of the role. Our bakery prides itself on working within the seasons and directly with producers as much as possible, so a desire to facilitate and learn this process is a must.

We are an artisanal bakery based in Brunswick, with a focus on high quality, sustainable ingredients from local suppliers. Run by Thomas Edwards (ex. Brae, Summertown Aristologist, Mirabelle), Iris is a culmination of many years of learning, experience, and a sustained passion for simple food that nourishes our customers and the earth.
The Ideal Candidate Must Have:
- Multiple years of experience in artisan bread and/or pastry, with some experience at the management level.
- A deep understanding of traditional baking/pastry techniques, with a commitment to continual learning and refinement.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor, inspire, and develop a team of bakers at varying levels of experience.
- A passion for working with high-quality, seasonal, and sustainable ingredients, and an interest in seeking out and fostering relationships with local producers.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to oversee production schedules, manage inventory, and maintain a high standard of efficiency.
- A hands-on approach and a willingness to be involved in daily production while maintaining a clear vision for the bakery’s future growth.
- A strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, and OH&S standards, ensuring compliance and best practices in the kitchen.
- A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work closely with the owner and team to refine existing processes, develop new products, and help shape the bakery’s evolving identity.
