Cultivating Community is seeking a Kitchen Facilities and Operations Assistant to support the smooth delivery of our cooking programs and the day-to-day operations of Correa Kitchen. This practical, hands-on role is central to ensuring our kitchen spaces are well-resourced, safe and welcoming for staff, participants and community kitchen hirers. This role will likely be 10 hours per week and can be completed over 2 days. Drivers Licence is a must.
About the role
The Kitchen Facilities and Operations Assistant supports organisational program delivery and Correa Kitchen operations by preparing materials, maintaining equipment and coordinating supplies so all cooking activities run smoothly. The role works closely with internal teams and external kitchen users, manages records and logistics, and helps maintain a high standard of food safety and operational efficiency.
Key responsibilities
Source, purchase and prepare food items for cooking classes and internal catering requests, with a focus on ethical and sustainable procurement
Undertake regular stock takes of equipment and ingredients
Prepare, pack and assist with delivery of equipment and supplies for onsite and offsite programs
Maintain kitchen spaces and equipment to a clean, safe and hygienic standard in line with food safety requirements
Oversee and coordinate kitchen utilities and services, including waste collection, maintenance and pest control
Manage correspondence related to kitchen bookings and support induction of kitchen hirers
Maintain accurate digital records related to food safety, venue hire and purchasing
Work within set budgets and maintain timely expenditure records
Build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams, external suppliers and kitchen hirers
Contribute to safe working environments in line with OH&S legislation and Cultivating Community policies
Undertake other duties as required to support kitchen and program operations
Skills and experience
Demonstrated experience maintaining a hygienic and functional kitchen environment
At least two years’ experience in basic food preparation within a catering or hospitality setting
Experience sourcing and procuring food and groceries within budget and timeframes
Ability to undertake manual handling and physically active work
Strong organisational, prioritisation and problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate respectfully and build positive relationships with colleagues, volunteers and community members, including people from CALD, Deaf or Hard of Hearing and other diverse backgrounds
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable
Experience in sustainable food procurement and an understanding of seasonality within the Victorian food system
Experience using Microsoft applications and Airtable
Proficiency in languages other than English
Experience working in the community or social enterprise sector
Lived experience of public social housing
