CHEF- Full Time

Punjabi Dawat is a well-established Indian restaurant located in Clayfield, Queensland, offering authentic North Indian cuisine and exceptional customer service. We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Chef to join our busy kitchen team on a full-time basis.

About the Role

The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing and cooking authentic Indian cuisine, assisting with kitchen operations, maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation, and supporting the efficient operation of the kitchen.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a range of authentic Indian dishes in accordance with recipes, menu specifications and established quality standards.
• Plan and organise daily food preparation and cooking requirements.
• Assist with menu planning, recipe development and preparation of daily specials.
• Prepare ingredients, sauces, marinades, curries, breads, accompaniments and other menu items.
• Monitor food quality, portion sizes, taste, presentation and consistency.
• Coordinate food preparation and cooking during service to ensure timely and efficient food production.
• Supervise and provide guidance to cooks, kitchen hands and other junior kitchen staff where required.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Assist with stock rotation, inventory control, food cost management and ordering of kitchen supplies.
• Monitor kitchen equipment and report maintenance or operational issues.
• Maintain cleanliness, organisation and hygiene of the kitchen and food preparation areas.
• Minimise food wastage and assist in maintaining efficient kitchen operations.
• Work collaboratively with management and kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient service.

Essential Requirements

• AQF Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent recognised qualification; or
• At least three (3) years of relevant full-time work experience as a Chef where no formal qualification is held.
• A minimum of one (1) year of relevant work experience in a Chef position in a commercial kitchen.
• Demonstrated experience preparing authentic Indian cuisine, particularly North Indian cuisine.
• Sound knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, food safety, hygiene and kitchen operations.
• Ability to maintain consistent food quality, taste and presentation.
• Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced commercial kitchen.
• Strong organisational, communication, leadership and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and take responsibility for kitchen operations.
• Availability to work a rotating roster, including weekends, evenings and public holidays.
