Five Simple Steps To Drive With the Uber App

It's a great side hustle, and signing up is easier than you’d think.

Driving with Uber is a great way to meet people, supplement your income and get some great new experiences. If you’ve decided to make the move and partner with one of the world’s largest rideshare platforms, here are five steps to follow to get you on the road sooner.

1. Sign up

This takes a few minutes online. All you need to do is fill out some personal details here.

2. Upload documents

Upload a valid full Victorian driver’s license, proof of identification (a passport or birth certificate), and a profile photo for the app.

Tip: Make sure your profile photo is front facing, well-lit and without any glasses. Best to get a passport photo taken.

Government regulations require Uber driver partners to hold the right driver accreditation, which you can learn about here. You can get this online and it will allow you to take trips with the Uber app on your Victorian license.

3. Vehicle inspection

You'll also need to pass a vehicle inspection before you can start driving using the Uber app in Victoria. This is to check your car over for safety and reliability, as well as ensuring it meets vehicle guidelines, which vary depending on location, so it’s ready to take some trips. If you don’t own a vehicle, eligible driver partners can connect with rental, leasing and finance providers through [Uber Marketplace] (https://ubertrk.com/c/2945330/1411756/4498?sharedid=scoutjobs.com.au) to get on the road sooner.

When your vehicle has passed inspection, you can apply to register the vehicle you intend to drive as a commercial passenger vehicle with Safe Transport Victoria.

Tip: Make sure you’re listed on your car’s insurance policy, even if you’re not the policyholder or don’t own the vehicle.

4. Hit the road

Once you’ve done all of this, it’s time to get on the road and start earning some money. Learn the peak travel times in your area to help make the most of each trip, and drive whenever it fits into your schedule. You can sign up in Melbourne here, and in Sydney here.

5. Uber Pro

Uber Pro is a driver partner program that recognises your commitment and effort with rewards such as fuel discounts and free coffee. By driving with the Uber app, you’ll be able to earn points and unlock status tiers. The higher the tier, the more rewards you’ll have access to. To progress through the tiers, you’ll need to earn points by finishing trips, keep your driver rating above 4.7 and your cancellation rate below three per cent. When you earn enough points to reach each higher tier, you’ll unlock that tier’s rewards straight away.
