Customer Service and Marketing Assistant
The Dirt Company
We're on the hunt for a Customer Service and Marketing Assistant to join our small, purpose-led team at The Dirt Company. This entry-level role is split across customer service and marketing, giving you hands-on experience across social content, campaigns, partnerships, and customer care. It's a great career launch pad.
We’re a little team with a big dream.
The Dirt Company was founded almost eight years ago on the belief that sustainable household products could be something people genuinely fall in love with. Since then, we’ve grown from a one-person operation into a tight-knit team of 15+ people, all working together to make that mission a reality.
We also happen to think we have one of the nicest customer bases on the planet — and in this role, we’re looking for someone who’ll enjoy the task of looking after them.
Enter: our Customer Service and Marketing Assistant.
This is a split role. The Customer Service component is shared with another part-time Customer Service Manager and will be your primary focus three days per week.
Customer Service Responsibilities:
- Respond to all customer enquiries within 24 hours — across email, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and other channels.
- Complete weekly reporting (including DIT, LITs, wrong orders, unsubscribers, and at least two interesting customer interactions).
- Act as the first point of contact for inbound queries, filtering from most to least important.
- Assist staff with internal orders and help with send-outs.
- Monitor our competitive landscape and brand mentions.
- Open and close the front shop, and serve customers who pop in.
- Add to the marketing ideas board each week — with links, notes or inspiration.
The Marketing Assistant component will make up the remainder of your week — and offers a broad introduction to the marketing function inside a fast-paced, purpose-led business.
Marketing Assistant Responsibilities:
- Weekly social content ideation.
- Managing and scheduling the weekly social calendar.
- Monthly campaign brainstorming and support (including copy and creative input).
- Helping plan and coordinate key partnerships and collaborations.
- Partnership outreach and communications.
- In-house reel filming and editing.
- Photoshoot planning and support.
- Competitive reviews and light trend forecasting.
- Occasional PR tasks like event or activation planning.
- Light sales team support, including supermarket visits or creating welcome packs.
This entry-level role offers a broad introduction to both brand and performance marketing — the two sides that work together to grow and nurture a customer base. You'll get exposure to the way campaigns are built, how we engage our community, and how we bring new ideas to life.
It’s also a great career launchpad. Our last Customer Service and Marketing Assistant is now our Digital Marketing Manager.
You’ll be working closely with our Customer Service Manager, Digital Marketing Manager, General Manager and Founder, gaining exposure to a range of functions across the business.
You’ll likely thrive in this role if:
- You’re organised. The role covers a wide variety of tasks. Boredom won’t be an issue — but keeping on top of your daily and weekly rhythm is essential.
- You’ve got a ‘give it a go’ attitude. We’re looking for someone open to trying their hand at a bit of everything, while figuring out which parts of marketing they’re most drawn to.
- You’re a competent digital native. You don’t need to know every platform already, but you should be comfortable in the digital world and quick to learn new tools. Marketing tech changes fast — but we’re good at staying nimble.
- You’re an ideator. While the customer service function is mostly responsive, marketing here is 100% proactive. It helps if you’re excited by the idea of bringing some charming madness to the table.
Benefits:
- Starting salary of $60k exclusing super ($67.2k inc super)
- Grassroots opportunity in a growing online retail business
- Work directly with the founder Frankie and other senior management
- Regular team events with your 15+ colleagues (Christmas functions, mid year dinners, friday night drinks etc)
- Free fruit, snacks, and a coffee machine in the office (if you’re not an ex-barista there are plenty already working here!)
