A new 'mini-pub' opening next door to The Walrus, St Kilda and by the same team.
We're looking for a variety of roles in the kitchen from Sous Chef to Kitchen Hand and still on the hunt for experienced Front of House/Waiters/Hosts and Bartenders.
Help us create the local's haunt of our dreams, one Guiness or Moules Frites at a time.
We opened The Walrus at 9 Inkerman Street in November 2023 as a little wine & oyster bar, focused on quality ingredients, simple pleasures and the local neighbourhood. The venue is housed in an iconic building that used to be 'Little Wolf' - the wine bar next to the notorious Karen Martini-led restaurant Mr Wolf.
In a delightful turn of events we have taken on the original site of Mr Wolf, right next door to The Walrus, and are planning our next venture: The Carpenter's Ruin.
The Carpenter's Ruin is set to open by August 2025 (yes, it's soon!) and will be a self-proclaimed 'mini' pub, serving up a classic menu of pub favourites. We're thinking about a steak night on a Monday (what's open on a Monday?!), a mussels or moules night, changing house-made pies and are still working on the rest!
The wine list will be all-Australian, there will be Stingray Draught by Bodriggy Brewing as our house beer, and we're sure there will be more than a couple of Guinesses poured every day too.
We're lucky that some of our team from The Walrus will be helping us shape The Carpenter's Ruin and have already been working hard on getting things going. We are on the hunt for people who are passionate, caring and professional to join the opening team and help us complete the gang.
As we are in the opening stages, the exact roles can be flexible or negotiated based on who is the best fit, but we are currently looking for the following roles:
Kitchen
Sous Chef or Jnr Sous Chef
Chef de Partie
Oyster Shuckers
Cook/Kitchen Hand/Kitchen Porter
Front of House
Section waiters (with experience)
Dispense Bartenders
Service Bartenders (some of the room will order at the bar)
We're welcoming applications via Scout or via email to hello@thewalrusoysterbar.com
A well thought-out cover letter and up to date CV will go a long way with us.
Successful applicants will be contacted directly by the relevant head of department.
