We're Hiring - Pottery Studio Assistant Chapel Street, Melbourne Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays
We're looking for someone with a love for clay and practical studio work to join our team 2-3 days a week. This is a well-established role, and you'll receive full training before starting on 25 September.
We’re on the lookout for a new team member to join us 2–3 days a week:
Thursday & Friday: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Saturday: 10:30 am – 6:30 pm.
You’ll be stepping into an existing role as we say a bittersweet farewell to our longtime team member, who’s heading off to Tassie. To make the transition smooth, you’ll shadow them on 4–6 September or 11–13 September before officially starting Thursday 25th of September.
You’ll be a great fit if you have:
At least 2 years at another ceramics studio or your own established practice
2–5 years’ wheel-throwing experience
Ceramics teaching experience (ideally wheel-throwing, as you’ll assist in all Saturday one-off classes)
Experience loading and unloading kilns
Glazing skills (you’ll be glazing all one-off class pots)
Ability to reclaim clay (from sludge to pug)
Willingness to clean… a lot of buckets
Some retail experience
Organised & efficient
Loves ticking things off, keeping systems in order, and getting the details right.
Comfortable working through a weekly must-do list to keep the studio running smoothly.
Reliable & dependable
Understands that the studio’s flow relies on the role being done well and on time.
Team player & independent worker
Can collaborate in a busy studio and also keep things moving solo.
Comfortable lifting 10–16 kg
You’ll be moving clay bags, materials, and water buckets (dollies/trolleys provided).
Happy in a hands-on role
From clay recycling to managing kiln schedules, loading/unloading, and assisting in classes, you’re up for the (sometimes messy) work.
Customer-focused
Enjoys engaging with our students, customers, and members.
Dog-friendly
Our studio pup, Fox, will expect pats.
Support for your ceramic practice with professional development opportunities and studio access
Access to wheels and hand-building space (outside your work hours) and your own storage shelf/cubby
Wholesale access to clay, glaze, and more from our suppliers
Free firing for practice/experimentation (within limits)
Discounted firing rates for pieces made for sale
Occasional balcony wine
