Green Horse is looking for a thoughtful and capable retail leader to help guide the next chapter of our business.

This is a hands-on role for someone who genuinely loves retail, enjoys building strong teams and systems, and wants to play a meaningful role in the growth of an independent business.

Working closely with the founder, you’ll take ownership of the day-to-day retail operations of the business while helping strengthen the systems, culture and structure that allow a small team to thrive.

About the Role

This role will lead the day-to-day operations of our Northcote store while supporting the wider retail operations of Green Horse.

You will work closely with the founder, who focuses on brand direction, strategy and buying, while this role oversees retail operations, team leadership and operational systems.

The position will begin as a hands-on leadership role within the store. During the initial period, the successful candidate will learn the operational systems of the business from the ground up while supporting a period of team transition.

Over time there is clear opportunity for the role to grow into broader operational leadership across the business as systems and team structure strengthen.

While Green Horse also operates an online store and marketing activities, these areas are supported by external collaborators. This role focuses primarily on retail leadership, operational flow, team culture and systems.

We’re particularly interested in someone who enjoys improving systems and helping small businesses run clearly and smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day operations of the Northcote store
• Support and guide the retail team
• Manage store rostering and staffing coordination
• Maintain exceptional customer experience and store presentation
• Oversee stock flow, merchandising and store organisation
• Support the documentation and improvement of operational systems and procedures
• Work closely with the founder on retail performance and operational improvements
• Help foster a positive, supportive and accountable team culture
• Support coordination between retail operations and external collaborators

Skills & Experience

• Experience leading teams in retail, hospitality or similar environments
• Strong organisational and operational skills
• Experience with retail POS systems such as Lightspeed
• Familiarity with e-commerce platforms such as Shopify is advantageous
• Experience with communication or workflow tools such as Slack or ClickUp is favourable
• Experience with retail rostering systems such as Deputy is advantageous
• A genuine interest in thoughtful retail and values-led businesses

The Details

• 4–5 days per week
• Must be available for at least one consistent weekend day
• Based in Northcote, Melbourne
