We are on the hunt for a new FOH team member! A professional with a passion for the industry, a self motivated and hard working individual who can bring their current hospitality skills to a team that values training and development and work life balance.

The Carlton Wine Room is looking for a qualified and enthusiastic new team member to join the fold as a full-time FOH Wait Staff (Trade waiter). 

As a trade waiter at The Carlton Wine Room, you will provide excellent service to our guests that makes them want to come back.

Occupation Tasks and Duties:

  • Professional attire and personal care: Ensure that you have neat personal appearance with a high level of personal hygiene at all times. Always have professional and appropriate workplace attire before commencing rostered shift.

  • Communication: Communicate effectively with guests, staff and management. Follow up with management for additional support when applicable.

  • Money and Point of sale: Properly utilise point of sale software and cash off tills with correct balances. Ensure customer orders are accurately entered into the point of sale system. Ensuring all items consumed by customers are accurately charged and paid for. Manage all payments and invoices with care and ensure it is accurate and handled as per security and safety standards.

  • Cleaning: Cleaning and clearing of tables, all glassware and utensils to be checked for cleanliness before going on tables. Clean walls, windows and floors are required.

  • Occupational health & safety: Adhering to the occupational health and safety guidelines, as outlined in the induction manual and other policies. Reporting any potentially dangerous situations or practices to the Manager on duty.

  • Telephone handling: Ensuring the telephone is answered in a professional and efficient manner. Handling any customer enquiries in a professional and helpful manner. Ensuring any restaurant bookings are taken according to procedure. Ensuring any messages for the Manager/Owner/staff are passed on in a timely fashion.

  • Attitude: Show up to work each day, fulfilling all CWR values to the highest level.

  • Service: Ensure service standards are maintained to CWR FOH training manual standards, including but not limited to:
    • setting and arranging tables according to bookings and service flow
    • taking reservations, greeting customers, and presenting them with menus and beverage lists, offering first drinks and assisting in making guests feel comfortable and looked after from seating
    • recommending dishes and pairing wines to complement menu, including daily changing chef menu pairings
    • taking orders and relaying them to kitchen and bar staff; serving food and beverages, communicating effectively with all relevant parties and both sides of the pass
    • opening, serving and bottles and pouring beverages including mixing liquor
    • assisting in the cellar and cellar maintenance alongside and under guidance of the Beverage Team
    • clearing tables and returning dishes and cutlery to the kitchen
    • removing empty bottles and used glasses from tables, and refilling and replacing glasses

  • Product Knowledge: Conduct your own study on beverage and food by using tools provided to you at CWR, such as wine training, Evernote, and by asking your colleagues questions.

  • Adhering to the restaurant presentation standards, service procedures and service times
  • Ensuring guests are met and greeted to a standard that will deliver a positive first impression
  • Ensuring guests needs and expectations are met
  • Delivering superior levels of service to ensure repeat business
  • Ensuring the dedication to the delivery of friendly, professional service
  • Ensuring all guests’ requests and questions are dealt with promptly and to the guests’ satisfaction
  • Ensuring that all guests are served in a timely fashion
  • Building ongoing rapport with regular guests to ensure repeat business
  • Monitoring the quality of food and beverages being delivered
  • Ensuring that an appropriate level of technical skills are demonstrated to guests
  • Ensuring that responsible service of alcohol policies are adhered to
  • Ensuring that any customer complaints are handled professionally or referred to the Restaurant Manager on duty.
  • Greet guests and make them feel comfortable
  • Learn menu items and be able to describe them appropriately to guests
  • Take beverage and food orders
  • Deliver beverages and food in a timely manner
  • Check-in with guests to ensure that everything is going well
  • Work with other servers and be a team player
  • Report to management with any customer issues
  • Working as part of a team to ensure that all tasks are completed in order of priority and within an allotted time frame
  • Responding to and treating colleagues with professional respect and courtesy
  • Being self-motivated, able to follow directions accurately and to work as an integral part of the team
  • Contributing new ideas which may improve guest service or departmental operations
  • Maintaining a clean and pleasant work environment setting and arranging tables
  • Taking reservations, greeting customers, and presenting them with menus and beverage lists
  • Recommending dishes and wines to complement food (particularly in fine-dining establishments)
  • Taking orders and relaying them to kitchen and bar staff; serving food and beverages
  • Opening bottles and pouring beverages including mixing liquor and assisting in the cellar
  • Clearing tables and returning dishes and cutlery to the kitchen
  • Removing empty bottles and used glasses from tables, and refilling and replacing glasses
  • Collecting payments for sales and operating point of sales machines and cash registers.

Skills and Experience:

  • At least 1-2 year’s experience as a waiter/barista/bar person
  • Excellent organisational skills and be able to prioritise work duties to meet deadlines
  • Proven history of customer service
  • Have strong attention to detail
  • Have effective communication skills
  • Reliable and hardworking
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure

Qualifications:

  • RSA Certificate
  • Formal wine training (WSET, CMS or similar wine certification) encouraged by not necessary.

Nominated Salary:

$77,000 - $80,000

The ideal candidate:

  • Can see themselves developing with our team long term (18 months or more as a minimum).
  • Loves drinking wine and dining out as much as they love serving guests.
  • Has a sense of urgency and thrives in a busy environment.
  • Is excited to be challenged professionally and grow within a great team culture.
  • Is available Friday and Saturday nights and is fully available in December.
