NEW BAKERY IN BRUNSWICK SEEKS ENERGETIC BARISTA FOR FULL TIME ROLE
We’re Vandels: a family-run bakery that’s about to open on Sydney Road in Brunswick. We’ll be making pastries, sandwiches and a little bit of bread at our on-site kitchen every morning. All by human hands, not machines or AI slop (seemed important to make the distinction).
It’s not our first rodeo; we have a solid track record in the hospitality industry, opening and operating our own venues. But with Vandels, we’re taking a hard pivot and returning to our affection for baked goods, with a focus on execution and consistency as opposed to experimentation and novelty. Everything is going to taste really good.
Obviously, the coffee’s got to match the food. We’ve got Duke’s Coffee Roasters on board, so now we just need an experienced lead barista to do the beans justice. Is that you? I don’t know yet. You tell me. I’m open to suggestion!
This is a full time role (Wednesday - Sunday) that centres around coffee, so it’s quite important that you like coffee and its various formats.
You will be responsible for:
Given our location (a very high traffic part of Sydney Road, next to a tram stop), we anticipate that coffee trade to be extremely busy from late morning through to early afternoon. We have a coffee window that allows us to trade directly onto the footpath, so expect this to be a busy role that keeps you on your feet and moving at a rapid clip.
The position would suit someone who is outgoing and chatty; who loves meeting new people and who keeps track of neighbourhood gossip like a mod from the local community Facebook group. How’s Steve doing after he tore his ACL at the footy scratch match last week? What’s with all the cars parked outside Sandra’s place? Where’s the garage sales happening this weekend? Due to your friendly and trustworthy demeanor, you’ll somehow know the answers to these questions and more.
Basic experience is required but training is available for the right person.
