About the role

We’re on the hunt for an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead the kitchen at the intimate, 30-40 seat café and bistro in a renowned suburb of Sydney. This is a unique opportunity for someone seeking work-life balance while having full autonomy in the kitchen. If you love creating simple, fresh, and innovative dishes with high quality ingredients in the French tradition with a twist, this is the role for you!

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute menus that reflect the signature French bistro style with a twist.
  • Lead kitchen operations, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and high-quality standards.
  • Oversee stock control, food costs, and supplier relationships to maintain profitability.
  • Manage and mentor a small team, fostering a positive and professional work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and health regulations.
  • Work closely with the front-of-house team to deliver a seamless dining experience.

About you

  • 3-5 years of experience in a Head Chef or senior kitchen role.
  • French or European culinary techniques—no Michelin stars required, just great food!
  • Professional attitude with a hands-on approach.
  • Organised, clean, and efficient—able to thrive in a small kitchen.
  • Business-minded, with an understanding of food and labour costs.
  • Long tenure in past roles—this is for someone committed to the industry.
  • A team player who values autonomy, trust, and results-driven leadership.
