Axil is hiring a Head Barista for one of our high-volume Melbourne venues. You'll run the coffee bar day to day: dialling in, managing workflow through peak service and ordering stock.
You'll also train and develop the barista team, working with our training manager to keep standards consistent across the business.

About the Role
This is a hands-on, leadership position for a seasoned barista who’s ready to take the reins of a high-volume, coffee-focused venue. You’ll set the tone on the bar, mentor the team, and collaborate closely with Axil’s training manager to ensure coffee quality is at its absolute peak, day in, day out.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience in a Head Barista or senior barista role in specialty coffee
- Deep knowledge of coffee theory and practical extraction
- A strong command of specialty espresso equipment
- Experience managing dial-ins, bar workflow and quality control
- Ability to train, mentor and inspire a team of baristas
- A commitment to consistency, efficiency and hospitality
- A collaborative approach; you’re as comfortable managing the pass or running floor as you are behind the machine
- A hunger to learn and a passion to contribute to Axil’s evolving coffee program

Your Day-to-Day Will Include
- Leading all coffee operations and ensuring quality control
- Dialling in and overseeing consistent espresso and brew execution
- Coaching and developing the barista team
- Managing workflow and bar efficiency during peak service
- Liaising with the kitchen and front-of-house teams to maintain smooth service
- Upholding cleanliness, calibration and café standards
- Helping shape a culture of coffee excellence and team unity
- Ordering and maintaining bar stock
