Bakers are a specialised type of pastry chef. Their role includes measuring flour and other ingredients, blending ingredients, kneading and shaping dough, applying glazes and other toppings, and baking products. These products include bread, pastries, cakes, desserts, pies and other baked goods. Retail bakers work in bakeries, bakeshops, patisseries or grocery stores and are often trained while working, or through an apprenticeship. Commercial bakers work in manufacturing facilities, often baking large quantities of product that will vary depending on the company’s speciality.
