About The General Strath Creek
Located just 90 km from Melbourne, The General is a newly revitalized destination, offering a place for locals and travellers alike to enjoy fresh produce, gourmet meals, and authentic rural hospitality. As our Chef in Residence, you’ll have the freedom to craft a seasonally driven menu that resonates with our community while attracting new visitors to this beautiful corner of Victoria.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Menu Consolidation: Design a seasonal menu that celebrates locally sourced ingredients, creating a farm-to-plate experience whilst being true to a “general store” offering.
- Event Creation: Help shape weekend dining events and themed culinary nights to attract food lovers and build The General’s reputation as a culinary destination.
- Manage all ordering and kitchen operations: Working with our existing suppliers and developing new arrangements where required.
- Autonomy & Creative Control: You’ll take charge of the kitchen, showcasing your culinary talents in an environment that values innovation.
- Community Collaboration: Partner with local farmers, winemakers, and food artisans to feature exclusive products and foster community ties.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years in commercial cookery, with a passion for farm-to-table cuisine.
- Highly organised and efficient kitchen operation: Running an organised and efficient kitchen including detailed food costings, management of ordering based on sales data and management of all aspects of food hygiene and safety.
- Innovation & Passion: You’re driven by a love for food, hospitality, and an eagerness to link seasonal ingredients into our menu offering.
- Leadership: Able to work autonomously, manage kitchen staff and operations, and inspire a small, dedicated team working collaboratively with FOH.
