About the Role
We are now looking for a Junior Sous Chef in a full time capacity to join our team, bringing with them a
passion for culinary innovation and a flair for creating exceptional dishes. As a Junior Sous Chef, you will
support the Sous Chef and Head Chef in overseeing the daily kitchen operations, while also contributing
to leadership, development, and consistency across all culinary activities. As a bridge between the Chef
de Partie team and senior leadership, you will play a vital role in mentoring, coordinating sections, and
upholding the culture and standards of Baba’s kitchen.
Responsibilities include:
- Consistently model professionalism and honesty, reinforcing a culture of respect and
- accountability.
- Demonstrate dedication to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Maintain calm under pressure, setting the tone for the rest of the kitchen team.
- Work fluidly across stations to support Chef de Parties and ensure smooth service.
- Act as a reliable conduit between the senior team and kitchen staff, clearly relaying expectations
- and feedback.
- Create strong working relationships through approachability and shared problem-solving.
- Support the growth of junior team members by demonstrating techniques and providing on-the-
- job coaching.
- Actively seek new culinary knowledge and refine techniques, staying current with trends and best
- practices.
- Embrace change and evolve with the needs of the business, always ready to step up when
- required.
- Manage daily task allocation across sections, ensuring team members are working efficiently and
- confidently.
- Monitor food quality and staff output to maintain Baba’s high standards across all dishes.
- Demonstrate high personal standards of cleanliness, organisation, and professionalism.
- Conduct quality checks for taste, texture, and presentation before dishes leave the pass.
- Assist with prep lists, mise en place planning, and service timing to deliver operational flow.
- Champion food safety and cleanliness protocols, ensuring the kitchen is always audit-ready.
- Contribute ideas to menu development and dish refinement when invited.
- Connect daily work to Baba’s broader culinary narrative—celebrating culture, produce, and people.
- Understand how food experience impacts guest satisfaction and support service excellence through every plate served.
About You
- AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma (ANZSCO Skill Level 2). At least three
- years of relevant experience may substitute for formal qualifications;
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience;
- Passion for food;
- Great attention to detail;
- Work well within a team;
- Must have full-time Australian working rights.
