Are you currently working in hospitality and looking for a role with more daytime hours, fewer late nights and the opportunity to work with exceptional food?

K-SEIN Fromagerie is looking for a friendly, reliable and motivated casual retail assistant to join our small team at South Melbourne Market.

Established in 2022, K-SEIN Fromagerie is an independent specialist cheese shop offering a premium selection of French, Swiss, Italian and Australian cheeses.

This role could be a great fit for chefs, front-of-house staff, deli workers or other hospitality professionals who take pride in the products they serve and want to use their customer-service and food knowledge in a quality retail environment.

We are open only four days per week: Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The role is daytime-focused, with no late-night restaurant shifts.

Previous cheese knowledge is welcome but not essential, as training will be provided. However, you must genuinely enjoy eating cheese, be open to tasting all styles of cheese and be interested in learning about producers, regions, flavours and maturation.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Welcome customers and provide friendly, personalised service
• Learn about our cheese selection and make confident recommendations
• Help customers choose cheeses for everyday use, entertaining and special occasions
• Cut, weigh, wrap and label cheese correctly
• Taste and learn about different styles of cheese
• Maintain high standards of cheese care, presentation and stock rotation
• Restock displays and prepare the shop for service
• Process customer payments accurately
• Work efficiently during busy market periods
• Follow strict food-safety and hygiene procedures
• Keep the shop, counters and equipment clean and organised
• Regularly wash and sanitise knives, trays, cutting boards and utensils
• Use antibacterial hand gel after handling the till and before returning to food service

Important cleaning requirements

Cleaning and washing are a significant part of the role.

Staff regularly wash knives, trays, boards and utensils throughout the day. Frequent handwashing and regular use of antibacterial hand gel are also required.

Because the role involves repeated contact with water, soap and sanitising products, candidates must be comfortable with frequent cleaning duties and regular hand hygiene.

• Experience in hospitality, retail, a deli, kitchen or food service is highly regarded

This is a casual position. Initial shifts will depend on availability and business needs, with the opportunity for more regular hours for the right candidate based on reliability, performance and progress in the role.
