HAIKU KURO

CAMBERWELL, MELBOURNE

Haiku is known for its Japanese interpretation onto the local café scene and has since created a buzzing location in the green heart of Camberwell, east of Melbourne CBD. Haiku offers a 7 day café operation and 3 evenings running under a different alias, Haiku Kuro, from Thursday through to Saturday. In addition to our venue, Haiku Future is conveniently located next door as our new takeaway/pantry concept, selling specialty Japanese grocery items and quick to go meals and sushi.

Our passionate BOH team is looking for a new Izakaya chef to lead our evenings and report to the day time sous and head chef. This crucial role will be responsible for managing the overall operations of the evening, ensuring Haiku continues to deliver a creative message through its culinary experience. This suits someone wanting to step up to run their own kitchen and take the next step whilst enjoying full support from above or someone already established as a head, wanting to dive into the izakaya world.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated for everything hospitality and passionate in creating a harmonious approach to both the work and team. In addition this role will also have the creative opportunity to be involved in menu development, leading their own team and ensuring a positive working culture.

What we would like:

  • Experience in a similar leadership role, or a commis, line cook looking for new opportunities.
  • A good understanding of Japanese cuisine.
  • Effective leadership and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrate organization, time management and delegation.
  • An understanding of food costs, rostering, targets and the responsibilities of maintaining standards upheld to Haiku.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to work in a high paced environment.

  • Option of part time hours purely focusing on Haiku Kuro evenings across the 3 nights.
  • Option of full time hours also available to be involved during day time operations. (in addition to the 3 nights to make full time hours).
