Sous Chef

We're looking for a talented and passionate Sous Chef to join the team at The Lion & Wombat, St Kilda

Position: Sous Chef 
Location: 107 Grey Street, St Kilda Victoria
Starting Salary: $77,000pa (+ Super)
Employment Type: Full-time

To be successful, you will have:

• At least three years of relevant experience in a fast-paced kitchen
• A strong work ethic and a passion for producing top-quality food
• Sound knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety, and hygiene standards
• Confidence in preparing a variety of dishes with consistency and care
• Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
• A genuine interest in contributing to menu R&D and concept development
• A love supporting the implementation of new specials and collaborations
• A strong understanding of British cuisine and cooking techniques

Roles and responsibilities include:

• Preparing and plating high-quality dishes in line with our venue’s food standards
• Managing section prep and service during busy periods
• Contribute to menu development and evolution in line with brand direction and commercial targets
• Get involved with driving seasonal changes, testing, and iteration cycles
• Use sales and service feedback to optimise menus for performance and margin
• Ensuring a clean and safe kitchen environment, following food safety standards
• Assisting with stock control, ordering, and minimising waste
