For the first time in Waxflower's history, we are advertising externally for the Head Chef position. After being with us since our inception, our current Head Chef, Dave Falvey, is seeking a new challenge. We are now looking for someone to bring fresh energy and new ideas to our kitchen.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Demonstrated experience and references as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef in acclaimed wine bars or restaurants, either in Australia or internationally.
  • Familiarity with venues that provide a standard comparable to Waxflower (particularly wine bars).
  • Strong knowledge of how to run a commercially viable kitchen. 
  • Detailed understanding of effective cost management, including the pricing of dishes based on produce and labour, and the ability to create a margin-sustainable menu. 
  • Experience in fostering strong relationships and negotiating effectively with produce suppliers.
  • Proficiency in managing staffing levels, ensuring a favourable labour cost-to-revenue ratio while effectively delivering your menus.
  • Ability to manage a team effectively, providing day-to-day support and nurturing kitchen staff to ensure they operate at their highest potential. 
  • Drive to integrate kitchen operations with other key departments within the business. 
  • A strong desire to communicate openly and foster a cohesive working environment. 
  • The capability to design a customer-focused menu that adapts to the changing demands of our clientele, driving increased revenue through customer satisfaction. 
  • Leadership in cultivating a positive kitchen culture, ensuring a well-supported and talented team can consistently execute a beloved menu.
  • A proficiency in the use of social media to leverage an online profile and comms to drive attention to the business.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite - understanding how to use Word and Excel to craft menus and crunch numbers.
  • Certification in commercial cookery
